Where to Eat, Drink, Shop There are two bars within a mile of Abbey View. Cable O'Learys, which opens its restaurant during the summer months, lies just fifteen leisurely minutes walk away, on a low cliff overlooking the Bay, whilst Rosie's, in the little village of Dungeagan, is a further ten minutes walk along the same road. There is a small shop just over five minutes walk away and a shop/post office with public internet facility opposite Cable's. A third shop, Browne's, is located outside Dungeagan. Whatever items you need, the essential purchase is a bar of "Rum and Butter" chocolate. Within 15 minutes drive you can reach Waterville to the east and Cahirciveen, to the north, both of which offer a good range of bars and restaurants, and Cahirciveen is a great town for shopping. Whilst in Waterville, be sure to take in the
Butler's Arms, the
hotel/bar/ restaurant where Charlie Chaplin brought his family for many a summer vacation. Charlie's association with this establishment is
commemorated via a statue situated opposite the hotel. Click here to Return to Home Page |
